AUM Cabs started its operations in Guwahati in 2015 with just 3 cabs at its disposal, but with the intention to address a a peculiar scene in the Gateway of North-East India – scarcity of quality cab services catering to the needs of people commuting within the city. This problem was common to most of the smaller cities and towns in India, but the strange thing about the situation in Guwahati, was that the problem existed despite a good number of cabs already operational at various points, like Paltan Bazar, Maligaon, Six Mile, Airport etc. Those cabs mostly catered to intercity needs, such as a travel to Shillong or Kaziranga or Sivasagar, but not much to the needs of those who wanted transportation within the city. The other problem was that the few operators who provided intracity services, charged the passengers whatever they felt like, often exorbitantly. This scenario was at its worst for Airport pick-up and drops. These two problems, often got aggravated because, in most cases, there was no transparency in dealings between vendors and drivers. With inefficient real-time grievance redressal mechanism, drivers refusing rides unless paid in cash, extra charges for turning on Air-conditioning and other malpractices ailing the intracity cab services, the commuters were often in the receiving end of woes.
